Solar Blanket

with Raptor Skin

I picked up a 100W solar blanket for my camping setup, and overall, I’m really impressed. It folds down small enough to tuck into the back of the 4WD, and at just a few kilos, it’s easy to carry around. Setting it up takes less than a minute—unfold it, plug it into the regulator, and you’re charging.

On a clear sunny day, it consistently gives me 70–80W output, which is enough to top up my KickAss DC500 power station or keep the 39L fridge running while camping off-grid. The Anderson plug connection makes it super easy to hook into my system, and the included regulator is straightforward to use.

Lovely. Puts out 100W in full sun. Drops to about 40W in clouds, and down to 5-10W when overcast. I connect two of them in parallel for a combined 200W output, and still somewhat decent when cloudy.

Comes with a thick, solid power cable that is good for using outdoors, and I really like the built-in zippered pocket that lets me store its accessories inside the unit for storage and travelling.

I also like the Solar controller unit that comes with it, though I haven't used it yet.

I combine it with the PS300, a cute little unit. It only takes up to 100W input, but seems to happily cap itself when getting full sun. Very happy. ^_^

We used the solar blanket to charge the Itech Pro300 power station, which in turn was used to run a wifi device in a remote worksite location. The power delivery was fine, and the unit itself worked very well. Where some improvement in our deployment or the product, could be achieved was that the legs were a little flimsy and the blanket blew over in the wind, face down, losing any power generation until we returned. We needed to use logs to brace the blanket upright and tie-downs on the legs. Basic field awareness from us would've helped but sturdier legs/supports and supplying tent-style tie-downs or pegs could've assisted.
