Whether you're a camping enthusiast or simply looking to keep your groceries fresher for longer on a short trip, this portable fridge freezer unit offers unparalleled performance and convenience.
In this article, we'll guide you through the features and functionalities of the iFROST, ensuring you get the most out of your new appliance.
Getting Started With Your Portable Fridge Freezer
When you receive your fridge freezer, check you have all the included adapters and that they’re intact.
Ensure that wherever the unit will be placed is a dry area free from moisture, heat and direct sunlight. Adequate airflow around the air vents is required for optimal performance, so make sure you're not jamming it right into a tight space. This will help keep it running as well as it should.
If you purchased the internal mounted lithium battery (sold separately), it is recommended to charge that unit as soon as possible.
The cooling compartment features a single zone section, with the display indicating the correct temperature of the compartment’s midpoint.
Prior to first use:
Your fridge will arrive pre-cleaned, but it is advisable to clean it again before the first time you use it.
- Ensure all power input cables and lithium battery (sold separately) have been removed prior to cleaning.
- Use a damp cloth with warm water.
- Be cautious to avoid getting water into any seals or electrical components.
- Allow the fridge to dry entirely before storing or using.
- If storing for an extended period, leave the lid open slightly to prevent mould or odours.
Do not use cleaning agents or hard brushes. This may damage the surface of the fridge.
Power options for your iFROST
There are 3 different ways you can power your fridge, as follows:
1. AC Adapter
When you want to run the fridge from mains power:
- Plug the AC 240V adapter and cable into the fridge’s DC 12V / 24V port, located at the end of the fridge.
- Connect the other end to a suitable AC 240V power source.
- The fridge will then need to be turned on via the display.
The AC 240V adapter can power the fridge and charge the internally mounted lithium battery (sold separately).
2. DC Adapter
When you want to run the fridge from DC 12V / 24V power:
- Plug the DC 12V / 24V adapter and cable into the fridge’s DC 12V / 24V port, located at the end of the fridge.
- Connect the plug to a cigarette socket, after ensuring it is a suitable 12V / 24V power source.
3. Solar Input
To charge the internally mounted lithium battery (sold separately) using solar power, plug an unregulated solar panel (16V – 31.5V) into the solar input ports at the end of the fridge. The solar panel must provide at least 50W.
We recommend using the iTechworld 200W Solar Blanket.
Note: Do not exceed 31.5V or 10A with the solar panel, and do not use the solar input ports without the battery connected.
How does the iFROST work?
The iFROST has an intuitive and straightforward display, taking the hassle out of temperature monitoring and control – simply press down the power button until it turns on or off! You also have the option to select between Celsius and Fahrenheit.
This fridge has been designed and developed to work optimally within an external temperature range of -10°C to 55°C and up to 90% humidity, with the unit being able to operate at a maximum angle of 30 degrees.
Use the up and down arrows to set the desired temperature, from -22°C to 24°C. Once the desired temperature has been reached, the compressor will shut off and it will maintain the selected temperature.
The display will automatically lock and dim itself after 30 seconds to prevent accidental changes. To unlock the display, hold the SET button for 3 seconds or until the lock icon disappears.
There are also 3 voltage cut out settings for protection, separated into Low (L), Medium (M) and High (H).
- When connected to a lithium battery, we suggest the L setting.
- When connected to a car battery, we suggest the M setting.
- When using the AC input, we suggest the H setting.
Please note: Prolonged operation on an angle of 30 degrees or more is not recommended, and you should limit use in this state to a maximum of 4 hours.
Troubleshooting Your iFROST Portable Fridge Freezer
If your fridge is not working, please test your power source. To do this, connect the fridge to at least 2 different power sources for a minimum of 30 minutes each, such as an AC 240V wall plug and a vehicle’s DC 12V power.
If the fridge works correctly whilst connected to one of these power sources, the problem is most likely not the fridge. The fridge should operate consistently regardless of the power source, if it is stable and within the correct range.
Other common issues may include wiring issues, undercharged batteries, and connection problems.
If your display won’t turn on, try the following:
- Check the input power source (ensure the voltage is neither too high nor too low).
- Inspect all connections and cables between the power input and fridge, ensuring there is no damage.
- Confirm that both the input power source and the fridge are turned on.
- Verify that the battery is turned on, if using the removable lithium battery.
If the fridge itself isn’t quite working as expected, try these:
- Ensure the lid is being closed properly from both sides.
- Check the input power source (ensure the voltage is neither too high nor too low).
- Confirm adequate ventilation around the fridge vents.
- Ensure the temperature of the food being placed inside the fridge is not too high.
- Verify the temperature setting is correct.
- Verify the fridge is not in direct sunlight.
